The Minister of Music and Education of University Christian Church is not employed under terms of a personal services contract, and reports to the Senior Minister.

3.006 Role Description - Church Organist

The organist for University Christian Church is responsible for providing organ and piano music for scheduled and special worship services and rehearsals of the Chancel and other choirs. The organist is directly responsible to the Director of Music.
Major responsibilities include:
¨ Play for all regular Sunday worship services
¨ Rehearse weekly and as needed with the Chancel Choir in preparation for worship services
¨ Rehearse with vocalists/instrumentalists in preparation for worship services
¨ Play for special services of worship during Advent, Holy Week and other special seasons
¨ Play for weddings and funerals held in the Sanctuary or the Chapel of the church
¨ Assist couples in selecting wedding music that is in keeping with what is appropriate for a rite of Christian worship
The Organist is allotted paid vacation consisting of four Wednesday rehearsals in combination with four Sunday worship services, to be determined in consultation with the Director of Music, in accord with UCC leave approval procedures. Other leave, either Wednesday rehearsals or Sunday worship services, or both, shall be arranged with the permission of the Director of Music or, in his/her absence, the Senior Minister, in accord with UCC leave approval procedures.
This role description will be reviewed annually, during July and August of each year, by the Personnel Council in consultation with the Director of Music and the Senior Minister.
3.007 Role Description - Choir Section Leader

The Choir Section Leader is employed by the Director of Music to support and enrich the music of the choir and to serve as soloist.
Major duties and responsibilities include
• Attend choir rehearsals at the appointed times
• Attend Sunday worship services from 10:15 am to the end of the service (approximately 12:05 pm)
• Attend all extra rehearsals and performances for special events (only musical events sponsored by the Endowment for Creative Ministries Trust will be compensated with additional pay--such funds coming from the Endowment)
• Sing solos during worship serviced on request of the Director of Music
• Boost morale and generate enthusiasm within assigned section
• encourage new choir members and promote a feeling of team spirit and ensemble within the entire group
• Attend and participate in all soloist staff meetings, on call by the Director
• Provide the Director with a list of available substitute singers/soloists in case of emergency situations
Section leaders/soloists are expected to attend both Wednesday rehearsal and Sunday worship services. Soloists who miss either a Sunday service or Wednesday rehearsal will be expected to supply a substitute for both the Sunday missed and the Wednesday rehearsal prior to it. You will be expected to pay the substitute yourself, as your pay check will remain the same. (Suggested payment for a Wednesday rehearsal and Sunday worship is $30.00).
Soloists who expect to miss more than two weeks in a row or request a summer leave are expected to find a fully qualified soloist to substitute during the absence. The selection of all substitutes must be approved in advance by the Director.
The monthly salary is to be established by the Personnel Council with provision for annual review. There is free parking in the UCC parking lot during rehearsals and on Sunday morning or performance times only. Terminations require two weeks notice.

3.008 Role Description - Custodian

The custodian for University Christian Church is responsible for
• Supervise building security by seeing that all the doors are locked at the end of each day
• Perform normal custodial duties including, but not limited to emptying the trash, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning restrooms, dusting, sweeping, cleaning windows, changing light bulbs (see attached Task List)
• Set up rooms in advance for special meetings and functions
• See that church tools and equipment are maintained
• Coordinate with administrative assistant in ordering custodial supplies
• Perform minor maintenance repairs, as capable
• List needed building repairs and give to Administrative Assistant
• Perform other duties as assigned
• Specific task list to be provided by Senior Minister in association with Chair of the Property Council for specific responsibilities
The Senior Minister has direct supervisory responsibility for the Custodian in consultation with the Chair of the Property Council. Leave and other absences will be arranged in advance with the Senior Minister, in accord with UCC leave approval procedures.
Additional compensation will be rendered for preparation and clean-up activities associated with scheduled weddings and receptions.
This role description will be reviewed annually, during July and August of each year, by the Personnel Council in consultation with the Senior Minister and the Chair of the Property Council.
3.009 Role Description - Nursery Coordinator

The Nursery Coordinator is the primary paid personnel providing child care in the church nursery during worship, Sunday School, meetings and events during which childcare is necessary.
The Nursery Coordinator will work under the direct supervision of the Nursery Committee and its chair, and will be evaluated annually, or as necessary by that committee.
The Nursery Coordinator will be responsible for securing additional nursery workers to ensure that the nursery is adequately staffed for appropriate church events and meetings. This includes recruiting potential staff, assisting the Nursery Committee with interviewing and hiring, and supervising nursery staff.
The Nursery Coordinator will be responsible for scheduling additional nursery workers as needed for regular and special events, and securing replacement workers or member volunteers in the event a regularly scheduled worker cannot be present.
The Nursery Coordinator will:
• Provide a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for the children in their care
• Pay careful attention to the developmental and nurturing needs of the children in their care, and respond appropriately to those needs
• Provide for positive, stimulating and age-appropriate activities for the children in their care
• Consult with parents at the time of drop-off, including communicating effectively with parents regarding special needs, concerns, and other issues involving their children
• Communicate immediately with parents in the event of an emergency or other matter needing their attention
• Keep a written record of Parent drop-offs and pick-ups, and work diligently to ensure the safety of each child
• Wash and dry bed and changing-table linens as necessary
• Perform other tasks as directed by the Nursery Committee and/or its chair
The Chair of the Nursery Committee has direct supervisory responsibility for the Nursery Coordinator in consultation with the Associate Minister and the Personnel Council. Leave and other absences will be arranged in advance with the Nursery Committee, in accord with UCC leave approval procedures.

3.011 Role Description - Administrative Assistant

The Administrative Assistant for University Christian Church performs the normal support functions usually associated with such a position, including
• Answer the telephone and serve as receptionist in the front office
• Perform typing and work-processing tasks as assigned; must demonstrate competence with computer hardware and software used by University Christian Church
• Prepare, duplicate, and mail, as necessary, bulletins, newsletters, reports, and other items
• Assist Ministers in visitor contact and charitable assistance programs of church
• Process visitor registrations and mail appropriate correspondence
• Maintain and update church calendar and all church files
• Show church, coordinate scheduling, and process paperwork for the wedding ministry as well as other functions requiring building use
