Food Insecurity Panel Conversation: Tuesday, September 8

On Tuesday, September 8 at 6:30 p.m., join us in the sanctuary for a panel conversation about food insecurity. Our gathering is co-sponsored by UCC’s Endowment for Creative Ministry and Disciples Home Missions, and will be live streamed for those unable to attend in person. This panel conversation is for anyone interested in learning more about responses to food insecurity.

Our panelists are:

  • Andrea Abel, Executive Director of Farmshare Austin. Farmshare’s mission is to grow a healthy, just and equitable local food system by increasing community food access and cultivating new farmers.

  • Rev. Dr. Heber Brown, Executive Director, Black Church Food Security Network. Rev. Dr. Brown is a catalyst for personal transformation and social change and social change for more than twenty-five years. He is author of the forthcoming book, Nothing More Sacred: Radical Stories Of Black Church Faith, Food and Freedom. 

  • Edwin Marty, Food Policy Manager, City of Austin’s Office of Climate Action and Resilience. His work focuses on support for community food production, institutional food purchasing, and improving access to healthy affordable food.

This event is part of Disciples Mission Week, hosted by Disciples Home Missions. September 8-13 will be a week of mission, service, and celebration.
