What To Expect At UCC on Sunday Mornings

Thoughtful Worship

Our style of worship is traditional, and we share the Communion feast every Sunday. Every 3-6 weeks, we start a new worship/sermon series in which we weave together the lectionary texts (a pre-selected collection of scriptures) with broader themes. Worship at UCC is relevant, inspiring, and hope-filled; as we receive the gifts of God, we’re strengthened for whatever we’re facing and emerge re-oriented to what really matters and re-energized to love and serve in Christ’s name. Sundays in the sanctuary — seeing other worshippers, sharing bread and cup, holding hymnals, hearing each other’s voices and the gorgeous organ music — refresh our souls and renew our spirits. It is a joyful thing to be together! Throughout the year, we have occasional special services in the sanctuary and the chapel.

Excellent Music

Those who sing, pray twice. This old proverb communicates how deeply music speaks to us and to God. Music helps make worship beautiful and meaningful. Our sanctuary is acoustically exceptional, highlighting the soaring voices, talented musicians, and majestic pipe organ.

The Chancel Choir is comprised of volunteers and Choral Scholars, who are UT undergraduate and graduate music students. The choir sings a wide variety of music, and every Sunday includes a choral anthem and solos by our Choral Scholars.

The choir is open to all with no audition required. Click here to watch a recent Advent Cantata.

Progressive Spirituality

At University Christian Church, we focus on common ground and the God-given gifts of all people, sharing God’s wide embrace with all. We are a progressive, open-minded congregation. Here, you will find space to ask big questions, and together, we will seek to address injustices and love all of God’s good creation.

We think that God has big plans to bring restoration, hope, and healing into the world through deep, vibrant community. UCC is an Open & Affirming congregation, a Green Chalice congregation, and engages in anti-racism efforts.

Our facilities are wheelchair accessible, and we offer enhanced audio devices for our services.

A Kid & Youth Friendly-Church

We think it’s vital to involve our younger members at every age. Our Sunday service includes different ways for kids to be involved, including being acolytes, bread bearers, and, for those too young to read yet, singing along during our simple, easy-to-learn prayer hymn which rotates by season.

There is a Prayground in the sanctuary, where kids can color, look at books, and absorb the worship service while staying engaged. You can also sit with your young ones in our glider chairs.

Children’s Sunday School meets monthly. Check with the church office for more information about our schedule.
