July Minister's Letter

UCC Family,

How glorious it has been to gather together in person (and online!)! I'm looking forward to many, many more Sundays learning, worshipping, hugging, and feasting together at Christ's table in our sanctuary. I'm sharing below again the poem I read near the beginning of the service on June 20 because it was simply so wonderful to breathe together once again (and for the first time, for some of us). A blessing we cannot speak by ourselves, indeed.

When We Breathe Together by Jan Richardson

When the day of Pentecost had come,
they were all together in one place.
– Acts 2:1

This is the blessing we cannot speak by ourselves.

This is the blessing we cannot summon by our own devices,
cannot shape to our own purposes,
cannot bend to our own will.

This is the blessing that comes
when we leave behind our aloneness,
when we gather together,
when we turn toward one another.

This is the blessing that blazes among us
when we speak the words strange to our ears,

when we finally listen into the chaos,

when we breathe together at last.
